HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Am I the only one who's excited about what is going to happen, of this 2018 is going to be another great fashion year. Before we actually are going to look forward to the year, I wanted to look back for a second to last year.
I'm obsessed with fashion photography, editorials, and vogue in general. So, I really wanted my first article to be about my favorite vogue editorials of 2017. Let's get started...!
Vogue: British
Month: December
Model: Adwoa Aboah
Photographer: Steven Meisel
What I love about this editorial is that it's so retro-looking. It's really something different and I love it when fashion references to the past century and the iconic things from those times. Adwoa wears a dress and turban from Marc Jacobs, also seen by his Spring/Summer 2018 collection.
This cover got really hyped by the hashtag #newvogue. That was because it was the first issue with the new chief editor Edward Enninful. You might know him because he also worked for Vogue Italia, Vogue America, i-D Magazine and W magazine. A lot of people have a personal opinion and expected something different from Enninful. Personally, I loved this cover because of the classiness. But it's just the first of many issues. Let's wait and see how this works out...
Vogue: Japan
Month: March
Model: Irina Shayk
Photographer: Luigi & Iango
Vogue Japan may be not familiar with the close-up covers and colored backgrounds, but besides that, this cover is really gorgeous. I'd love when I see models who are improving really much, just like Irina. When I first saw her in the Bazaar US cover featuring Adriana Lima and the Weeknd, I didn't like her at all. But since this editorial, she has proven me that I am wrong. Actually, I think I kind off fell in love with her face. Over this year they did such a great job on Vogue Japan, their photos are so strong. I think I'm getting there to be a Vogue Japan fan.
Vogue: Italia
Month: September 2017
Models: (L-R) Mariacarla Boscono, Federico Spinas - Lily Aldridge, Vittoria Ceretti - Pablo Rousson, Edoardo Velickskov
Photographer: Mert & Marcus
This one is one of my favorites this year because I love the story. Vogue Italia has proven me the past years how great their issues are (they are literally my number-one vogue). I think it's the best Mert & Marcus cover for Vogue Italia yet. People didn't like the fact that Aldridge was on the cover, she wouldn't be High-Fashion enough to be on this cover. I know where that's coming from, I'm not a fan of Lily Aldridge her editorials either. But this time she has shown me different, the chemistry with Vittoria is working out well.
Vogue: Italia
Month: July
Model: Grace Elizabeth
Photographer: Steven Meisel
Again an Italian Vogue in my favorites list, but this time shot by Steven Meisel. I love the fact it's such a classy looking cover, it reminds me of the 60s vogue. Yeah, what can I say more? I am really in love with this editorial.
Vogue: Brazil
Month: September
Model: Bella Hadid
Photographer: Gui Paganini
This year in September Bella Hadid broke the record of Vogue covers in a month. She reached the number of 5 covers (China, Arabia, Spain, Australia, and Brazil). To be honest, I'm not really feeling the Hadids, I'm really not a fan. These covers really gave me a Carla Bruni vibe and that's what I love about these covers. For me are those covers the proof that she is improving to be better than just a social media model.
Vogue: Italia
Month: December
Model: (cover, left) Irina Shayk - (editorial, right) Taylor Hill, Bella Hadid
Photographer: Mert & Marcus
For this issue, there are actually 3 different covers, but I loved the one with Irina so much. That is why it's the only one I put in the collage.
This is the third time I put an Italian vogue in this article. The storytelling in this editorial is what I like so much. Again it's a bit inspired by the 90s. Vogue Italia came back so strong this year, and I am enjoying this cover really much. Mert & Marcus are back with a glamorous series. Although I'm not a big fan of the layout. Overall it's a great cover.
